Artebella On The Radio: August 26

From September 3 through 26, 2021, Pyro Gallery will present Staying Cozy During Covid: Comfort Designs by Suzy Harrison, featuring the member artist's textile installation derived from her sketchbook India ink designs created in 2020 and 2021. Presented in the form of digitized patterns output into woven blankets, the textiles address what it means to seek comfort during the isolation of the Covid-19 pandemic timeframe.

Harrison's installation runs September 3-26, with a First Friday Reception on September 3 from 6-9 pm and a Sunday Reception on September 5 from 1-4 pm. The show closes with an artist talk at 2 pm on September 26.  

She ia a resident and educator at Brick Street Studios, along with artists Katherine McCadden and Shamia Gaither. Its next public exhibition, entitled "Transitions"  will take place at the end of August. The opening reception is Friday, August 27th from 5 to 9 pm.

Artebella On The Radio: August 19

Geoff Crowe is a painter of what might be described as abstract expression. He works in a variety of mediums including, acrylic, watercolor, dip ink pens, charcoal, and sometimes a mix of these. 

“I began my formal training as a visual artist in Puerto Rico. My first exhibition, En Accion (2004), featured a series of paintings capturing the movement and enthusiasm of children playing soccer. The Latin influence of my early training continues in the often dramatic use of color and light.

My exploration into how to express my art began with impression-like paintings. Most recently I have begun exploring abstract expressionism.  Over the years my subjects have included figures, ballet dancers, horses, pets and other animals, cityscapes, and children’s book illustrations.

I have had the luck of painting and sculpting while living in multiple countries. I grew up in California and have lived in Indiana, Puerto Rico, Ireland, and most recently Louisville, Kentucky”.

Crowe’s new exhibit "STONE & CANVAS--In Abstract" is at Kore Gallery. The reception for this exhibit, which also features the work of sculptor Mike McCarthy will be August 21, 6-9 PM

Painter Julio Cesar is our guest this week, talking about his new exhibit now on view at Revelry Gallery. Tune in to WXOX 97.1 each Thursday at 10 am to hear Keith Waits talk with artists on LVA's Artebella on the Radio.

Julio Cesar Rodríguez Aguilar was born in 1976 in Holguin, Cuba. Enthusiastic about drawing from a very early age,  he studied at the Vocational School of Art Raúl Gómez Garcia, and the Professional Academy of Visual Arts in Holguin, graduating in the specialty of Painting, Drawing, Photography and Artistic Weaving in 1995. Julio also became a professor of the arts and has experience in book illustration, stage and costume design, muralism, and more. 

His new solo show, Perpetual Contours, opens at Revelry Gallery on August 6 with a reception that evening 6-9 pm.

Nicholas Hulstine is a Louisville, Kentucky- based theatre artist. He has worked extensively in NYC and in Louisville, he has been associated with The Alley Theater, Theatre 502, and StageOne. On film, he’s appeared in My Friend Dahmer, Above Suspicion, Runner, The Art of Self Defense, The River and Great Light. 

Joey Eberling is a comedian, artist, and actor living in Louisville, KY who loves his dog, cat, wife, and you.

2021 Fringe Festival is scheduled for August 4-8 at Milewide Brewing Co. and Planet of the Tapes.
