Recommend talented, motivated art students to attend Botanical Gardens LVA Art & Nature Camp


 In 2021, art and nature come together outdoors for a week of exploration, imagination and creativity!

Hello Art Teachers, Science Teachers and Principals,

Louisville Visual Art and the Louisville Waterfront Botanical Gardens are happy to announce The Botanical Gardens LVA Art & Nature Camp, a unique summer opportunity for talented, motivated art and science students. This free educational summer camp serves West End area youth, ages 7 to 12. To be eligible for participation, campers must be recommended by a Science Teacher, Art Teacher or Principal familiar with their character and capabilities. We look forward to enrolling young artists and scientists who show exceptional promise and who are performing above grade level in visual art and/or science.

 

 DETAILS:
• No charge for accepted participants
• Location: Waterfront Botanical Gardens, 1435 Frankfort Ave., Louisville, KY 40206
• Dates: June 21 through 25, 9:00am to 4:00pm
• Daily round-trip transportation provided at no cost from several points in the West End
• One off-site field trip
• Lunch and snacks served each day
• Art instruction and materials provided by Louisville Visual Art
• Nature exploration provided by the Botanical Gardens
• Camp size limited to 10 students
• COVID19 protocols will be followed: daily temperature checks of all participants/facilitators, mask-wearing by all participants/facilitators, safe social distancing, frequent hand-washing/sanitization, and keeping activities outdoors as much as possible.

 

Projects and activities:
• Studying plant life, insects, soil, birds and animal life
• Creating art-centric projects with and about plant life in the Louisville area
• Making journals and using them to record observations of nature 
• Nature hikes
• Field trip to the learning gardens at the Avish Estate
• Painting, sketching, examining, building, imagining, recycling, composting
• Nature-based art projects to be brought home
• Bird, bug, critter and cloud watching

Please use this link to recommend students for participation. After reviewing recommendations, we will send registration information to the parents/guardians of the students selected. Authorized adults will then register their students to finalize the process.
