Artists Talk With LVA: February 9, 2023

Will Oldham is an American singer-songwriter and actor. From 1993 to 1997, he performed and recorded in collaboration with dozens of other musicians under variations of Palace (Palace, Palace Flophouse, Palace Brothers, Palace Songs, and Palace Music). After briefly publishing music under his own name, in 1998 he adopted Bonnie "Prince" Billy as the name for most of his work.

Will grew up in Louisville and trained as an actor for several years at Walden Theatre before turning his creative energies to music and songwriting.

Will has been involved with WXOX as a DJ and guest, performing at the Voix de Ville fundraiser and working with Kentucky INTENTIONAL Sounds who helped build WXOX’s sister station, WXND 100.9.

WXOX/Art FM celebrates 10 years AND its GiveForGood Louisville so Station Manager Sharon Scott talks about the history & future of 97.1. Tune in to 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com each Thursday at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

SHARON M. SCOTT established ARTxFM in 2011 with the purpose of providing artists and community members access to the airwaves for creative and experimental use. Streaming live around the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the ARTxFM schedule includes music, talk, and experimental programming.

She is also an author, artist, and cultural historian. Her premier book Toys and American Culture: An Encyclopedia received outstanding reviews from Booklist, The American Journal of Play, and Lawrence Looks at Books.

Sharon has spoken on the importance of freeform broadcasting at national events such as the Grassroots Radio Conference, College Broadcasters Inc., and the CMJ Music Marathon. Her radio advocacy on behalf of artists and community members has gained the attention of publications such as The Chronicle of Higher Education, Southern Living, The College Music Journal, and The New York Times.

Joyce Barbour (She/They) is a transfeminine multimedia artist focusing primarily on sound and installation. Conceptually, Barbour’s work often explores the therapeutic possibilities of art and the idea of creativity as a communal effort. Collaboration is a strong part of her creative practice.

Alexis Kite is a Louisville artist in the mediums of music, cartooning, and being an Art Hoe. Her main work in the ongoing diary comic Is Life. She was the guitarist for the trans radical punk band Bathroom Laws, and will eventually re-establish her current music project, Syldra. Lexi is also known for being a bimbo and loving 80's era video gaming.

Vidalia Unwin is an actress and playwright who studied creative writing at the University of Louisville and studied theater unofficially at Bellarmine University. Her full length credits include Domesticate, Punk Snot, Broken Iris, and The Ballad of Night Moose (co-written by Lex Mitchell). Her short plays include Cruise Control, Hunting For Jackalopes, and Hiding on Jupiter. She has worked with several Louisville theatre companies including Derby City Playwrights and Looking for Lilith Theatre Company.

Born a Yankee, and wandering through the South, Sabra Crockett finally found her home in Louisville, Kentucky with all the beautiful songbirds surrounding her, and the most spectacular variety of trees she could possibly hope for.

Crockett has exhibited extensively in Kentucky, and in NYC, North Carolina, California, and De Harmonie, Leeuwarden in the Netherlands.

Edwin Ramirez is a Chicano multimedia Artist, DJ, hairdresser, campaign organizer, and professional dog trainer. My skills are quite varied but my career focus is to assist progressive candidates to win seats in public office.

Their exhibit, The Education of Desire, opens November 3 at Kore Gallery, with an opening reception on November 6 from 6-9 pm. Runs through November 28.

Louisville native John Austin Clark co-founded Bourbon Baroque with the late violinist Nicolas Fortin. Mr. Clark operates a private piano studio, is an active accompanist and vocal coach, directs musical theatre and opera, and performs regularly with various ensembles and equity theatre houses such as Actors Theatre of Louisville and Gulfshore Playhouse in Naples, Florida.

He is the recipient of the 2017 Young Alumni Achievement Award from his alma mater Louisville Collegiate School in Louisville, Kentucky and a recipient of a Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts Toyota Alumni Grant that he used to apprentice with harpsichord builder Yves Beaupré of Montréal, QC in August 2017. He performs on a variety of keyboard instruments and owns a 2017 Beaupré Italian harpsichord. He can be heard on the Naxos/Centaur label.
