Julie Leidner is a Louisville native who has exhibited locally as well as in New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. She has taught for Louisville Visual Art, The Speed Museum, Kentucky College of Art + Design, and was a Museum Educator at The Carnegie Center for Art & History in New Albany, IN. She was the recipient of the 2015 Mary Alice Hadley Prize for Visual Art and a 2018 Great Meadows Foundation Residency Grant. She is the recipient of a 2023 Curate Purchase Inspire Fellowship with Louisville Visual Art. For that fellowship she is creating an exhibit to be housed with Hildegard House.

Last Flowers, a Pop-Up Exhibit is at the LVA Gallery through April 19

Hildegard House is Kentucky's first and only comfort care home. Through the support of our community and with the help of many volunteers, we provide a home and compassionate care for individuals at the end of life who have no home or loved ones to care for them so that they may die with dignity.

KMAC Couture is April 13 so this week we had 4 of the designer/artists in the studio with us: Juliet Taylor, Mallory Quisenberry, Edwin Ramirez & Trevor Decuir.

KMAC Couture is a wearable live art runway show presented by KMAC Museum. It is the signature fundraiser for KMAC Museum that provides funding for the Museum's educational programs and exhibitions. This event offers a unique way to experience art and fashion. KMAC Couture features and supports emerging and established artists, costumers, designers, and milliners through the extraordinary presentation of original couture pieces of wearable art and conceptual fashion designs. Juliet Taylor is an interdisciplinary artist working with quilting wearable art. This is her first time with KMAC Couture.

Mallory Quisenberry is a fashion designer the founder of Green Folk Collective which features her “handcrafted slow fashion designs. This is her first time with KMAC Couture.

Edwin Alberto Ramirez is a Multimedia artist, costume designer, DJ, & pro dog trainer.

Trevor Decuir is a queer fiber artist just beginning to display work publicly.

Edwin and Trevor are working together on this KMAC Couture.

Artists Talk with LVA: March 28. 2024

This week we talked briefly with Gad Niyiragira from the Community Foundation of Louisville about the Bill Fischer Award for Visual Art. Deadline to apply is April 8.

Then Scott Scarboro talked about his latest project:

Scotchamo - "Station to Stereo"

Performing LIVE in the Art FM Performance Studio Friday, March 29  7pm EST 

On March 29 (Good Friday), Scarboro will perform his latest conceptual, improvisational musical/sound collage, "Station to Stereo", a 14 movement piece that draws inspiration from David Bowie's "Station to Station" song/album, the Stations of the Cross as a religion story, the magic of radio waves, and cosmic space travel.

The public is invited to experience the free performance in the Art FM studio or from the comfort of their favorite tune-in spot as the event will be LIVE BROADCASTED on WXOX 97.1 FM and streamed worldwide on www.artxfm.com

The ART FM station's performance space is located at 515 W. Breckinridge Street, Louisville, KY.  The event is Free, BYO food/drink.  Doors open at 6:30pm and the performance will start promptly at 7pm.

Artists Talk with LVA: March 21. 2024

Valtcho Tonov is a mostly self-taught artist who was born in Bulgaria. He became seriously interested in art at the age of sixteen when his family relocated to Plovdiv.

After moving to the United States in 2001, he soon settled in Louisville, Kentucky. Valtcho has continued his studies under the tutelage of renowned artists such as John Michael Carter, Phil Starke and others. He is part of an ongoing uninstructed figurative drawing/painting workshop at Mellwood Art Center in Louisville.

A passionate Plein Air painter, he can be seen painting around Kentucky, Indiana, Florida, and Bulgaria. He is a member of the Plein Air Painters of KY. As a full time painter his repertoire includes landscapes, still life, abstract ,sporting and  figurative. He draws inspiration from The Russian School - Repin, Serov, Fechin, etc. , and the American realist painters Sargent, Schmid, Hassam, and many others.

Artists Talk with LVA: March 14. 2024

Sheila Fox is a mixed-media artist who resides in Louisville, KY. She has been drawing for well over twenty years but has been painting since 2016. She signs her works under the artist name GodivaGoddess. Her motivation is rooted simply in being a Black Woman in America. She focused most of her life attending to work and supporting her family but has always known that she was an artist. She specializes in capturing the timeless essence of black women; and tackles the beauty within history, race, power, and repression. 

On March 21 Sheila will be recognized as the Emerging Artist at the 2024 LVA Honors, a fundraiser for Louisville Visual Art. Find out more about the event and how to purchase tickets here: louisvillevisualart.org/lva-honors
