KMAC Couture is on March 28th, and this week, Malcolm Fife, Louis Taylor-Barks, & Jacob Grant will join us in the studio. Tune into Artists Talk with LVA on WXOX 97.1 FM at 10 AM.

Malcolm Fife is a Kentucky resident who recently graduated (2022) with a BFA in Printmaking and Painting from Murray State University. He has shown work in Bowling Green, Lexington, Evansville, and Henderson. He is a member of ArtWorks Bowling Green, Murray Art Guild, Lexington Art League, Henderson Society of Art, and Ohio Valley Art League. He currently works at Hadley Pottery.

Louis Taylor-Banks is a retired Navy veteran who describes himself as “kind of a maker”.

Jacob Grant is Artist & Curator @revelrygallery. He earned a BA in Art History + Philosophy from the University of Louisville and is a candidate for an MA in Critical & Curatorial Studies from the Hite Institute of Art + Design at U of L.

KMAC Couture 2025: Lucky #13 is a wearable live art runway show presented by KMAC Museum. It is the signature fundraiser for KMAC Museum that provides funding for the Museum's educational programs and exhibitions. This event offers a unique way to experience art and fashion. KMAC Couture features and supports emerging and established artists, costumers, designers, and milliners through the extraordinary presentation of original couture pieces of wearable art and conceptual fashion designs. Mallory Quisenberry is a fashion designer and the founder of Green Folk Collective which features her “handcrafted slow fashion designs. This is her second time with KMAC Couture.

Elizabeth Windisch is a Multimedia artist, surface pattern designer and archivist. Her current designs are created from hand drawings inspired by the unseen forces of nature.

Kris Thompson is Development & Special Projects Manager at KMAC Museum. She is also a fiber artist living and working in Louisville, KY. Recent group exhibitions include an all woman show which she co-curated and exhibited in and a show at Moreman Gallery.

Artists Talk with LVA: March 12, 2025

It's almost time for LVA Honors & LVA Executive Director Angela Hagan joined us to talk with two of this year's Honorees: Chuck Swanson & Juliet Taylor. Tune in to WXOX 97.1 FM/Artxfm.com each Thursday at 10 am to hear Artists Talk with LVA.

Dr. Angela Hagan became the Executive Director of Louisville Visual Art in September 2024. For over a decade, she worked in leadership functions including development, marketing and communications, and community engagement for nonprofit organizations focused on affordable and fair housing, education, youth development, and art (KMAC Museum) before spending a decade at Louisville-based Fortune 60 health plan Humana, where she led functions  and teams in member engagement and community health strategy and insights.

Chuck Swanson is an artist, primarily a painter, but he is also one of the pioneer gallerists in Louisville, having opened a gallery on Bardstown Road in 1982 and then in 1998 on East Market Street in what would eventually become the celebrated NuLu neighborhood. For the record, Swanson opened the space near Market and Clay well ahead of the rechristening of the area, so he must be counted as one of the reasons why the once-neglected and depressed environs became a hot spot for redevelopment.

Juliet Taylor is an interdisciplinary artist working with quilting & wearable art. She was a featured designer in the 2024 KMAC Couture and was a part of the Material Obsessions exhibit in the fall of 2024 at KMAC Museum. Most recently she has worked as the lead fabricator on the SPARK sculpture scheduled to be unveiled on the LVA building in February 2025. Juliet was a student in LVA’s Children’s Fine Art Classes and at DuPont Manual Visual Art Magnet.

Artists Talk with LVA: October 24, 2024

Kris Thompson is a fiber artist living and working in Louisville, KY. Recent group exhibitions include an all woman show which she co-curated and exhibited in and a show at Moreman Gallery. In 2024 she had her first solo show at Capacity Contemporary Exchange in Louisville, KY. She is the recipient of a grant from the Great Meadows Foundation in which she traveled to Venice, Italy for the 2024 Venice Biennale. Her work is in private collections in Louisville including the Shapin Nicholas Project Foundation.

Mary Newton is a painter based in Louisville, KY. Recent group exhibitions include H20 at The Painting Center in New York City and 21C Museum Hotel in Louisville, KY. In 2024 she had a one person exhibition at Kleinhelter Gallery in New Albany, IN and in 2022 exhibited at the Suny Art Center in London, UK as a finalist for the Suny Art Prize. She is the recipient of grants from the Caroline Lowndes Foundation, Great Meadows Foundation, Kentucky Foundation for Women, and the Kentucky Arts Council. In 2023 she was awarded, through the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, a fellowship residency in Salzburg, Austria at the Kunterhaus as part of a cultural exchange with the U.S. Her work is in numerous private and public collections including Wright State University in Dayton, OH, Churchill Downs, Kentucky One Health, Brown Forman, Kosair Children’s Hospital, and Norton Hospital in Louisville.

Edwin Alberto Ramirez is a Multimedia artist, costume designer, DJ, & pro dog trainer.

Trevor Decuir is a queer fiber artist just beginning to display work publicly.

Edwin and Trevor are working together on this KMAC Couture.
