Idris Goodwin is an award-winning playwright, director, orator and educator. He is the Producing Artistic Director of Stage One Family Theater in Louisville, KY for which he penned the widely produced And In This Corner: Cassius Clay. Other widely produced plays include: How We Got On, This Is Modern Art co-written with Kevin Coval, Bars and Measures, The Raid, and Hype Man: a break beat play. The Way The Mountain Moved, commissioned as part of Oregon Shakespeare’s American Revolutions series. He has work produced by or developed with Actor’s Theater of Louisville, Steppenwolf Theater, The Kennedy Center, The Denver Center for The Performing Arts, Cleveland Playhouse, Seattle Children’s Theater, Nashville Children’s Theater, Boulder Ensemble Theater, TheaterWorks, Berkeley Rep's Ground Floor Program, La Jolla Playhouse, The Eugene O’Neill Center, The Lark Playwriting Center and New Harmony Project. He’s received support from the NEA, The Ford, Mellon and Edgerton Foundation, and is the recipient of InterAct Theater’s 20/20 Prize and The Playwrights’ Center’s McKnight Fellowship.

Jack O’ Lantern Spectacular - October 9-November 4, 2018
Iroquois Amphitheater  1080 Amphitheatre Road

Travis & Matty are looking to recruit more Louisville artists to work on this project. With over 5,000 professionally carved jack-o-lanterns including well over 100 masterpieces lighting nearly a one-third-mile trail. Grouped in themed scenes and set to music, this year’s show, “A Night at the Library”, is a celebration of the Smithsonian’s 50th anniversary with vignettes highlighting imagery from literature, pop culture, history, arts and cinema. Proceeds from the event benefit the Louisville Parks Foundation. Gates open at 6 p.m. Trail opens at dusk (near 7:30 p.m.). Concessions available.

We were playing Aretha Franklin in the first place, but were saddened to receive the news while listening to the first of her songs that she had passed away earlier that morning. We played three of her songs on this broadcast.

Jordan Clark, Lee Mai, & Abbie Springer of Cirque Louis were with us in the studio July 19. They will be performing at iroquois Amphitheatre on July 20 & 21 as a part of the Amphitheatre's 80th Birthday Celebration! Jordan Clark was first taken to see the circus by his grandparents. From there, a fascination of the circus and its characters began to grow. The circus was a place where Jordan’s childlike imagination could manifest into a tangible experience. After training on his own in high school, Jordan began his formal circus training in 2006 at the National Circus School of Montreal’s summer program. He was later accepted into the school’s prestigious college program where he completed his training in 2012. Jordan has performed his hand-balancing act in over 20 countries as well as at sea.

Lee Mai is a Juggler and circus enthusiast who is one of CirqueLouis’ most consummate and active performers. He is a regular fixture at CirqueLouis’ city wide events and productions, playing a Vaudeville star in Bootleg “Untapped” (2015) and Puck in “A Midsummer Night’s Circus” (2016) and major roles in Pinocchio (2016), East of the Sun (2017), and Kaleidoscope (2017). In addition to performing, Lee is also an instructor for CirqueLouis’ educational outreach and Social Circus program. Beyond circus, Lee enjoys food, good conversation, kindness, and cheesy sci-fi.

Abbie Springer grew up in Kansas City, Mo, but moved to Louisville to compete with the nationally ranked University of Louisville cheerleading squad and in 2009, she began her circus arts training. Abbie has trained extensively in doubles acts and apparatus (Acro, Adagio, Trapeze, Chandelyra, and Sphere). She has trained on Silks, Aerial Rope, Lyra and completed her instructional training through NECCA (New England Center for Circus Arts). Abbie has performed in CirqueLouis’ previous productions of Bootleg “Untapped” (2015), A Midsummer Night’s Circus (2016), Pinocchio (2016), East of the Sun (2017), and Kaleidoscope (2017).
